Call the Midwife writer Heidi Thomas has finally addressed whether the show will continue to run for years to come or whether there is a plan to end the show.
The show first debuted on BBC One back in 2012 and has been a huge hit with fans ever since – pulling on their heartstrings every episode.
The series follows a group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London in the late 1950s who deal with the pressures of their day-to-day lives while trying to cope with the changes in the world around them.
Since its inception, it has tackled some of the most heartbreaking storylines such as abortion, babies born with spina bifida, side effects of thalidomide, induction of the contraceptive pill, domestic violence interracial marriage, female genital mutilation and mental health.
Thomas followed the historical events back through time and was determined to highlight how difficult it was to have a baby back then and the ideologies people had about pregnancies.
Call the Midwife is currently on its 14th season and whilst many will wish to see the show go on forever as new technologies are always being found – Thomas may have other ideas.
The show has been running since 2012

Speaking to Radio Times, the writer was no stranger to acknowledging how well her series had done and how it had become one of the most popular dramas on British television.
When discussing how long she feels the show could run for, she revealed: “Those of us who are most invested with the show, cast and producers alike, who have been there since the beginning, it 2is our lives.
I don’t believe Call the Midwife will ever end. But I do think we might take a break at some point. There is an ongoing conversation that we always have at this point every year.
“Is there an endpoint? What are we working towards? We do see opportunities to expand our storytelling world. So, if we do take a break, it will be with a view to looking at other aspects."

The latest update comes as fans were recently left “sobbing” as they witnessed a heartbreaking storyline with a devastating end.
During the episode, Jacqui struggled with heroin addiction, while her husband Laurence had gone sober.
She managed to deliver their son, Michael, after a complicated birth but Laurence later realised Jacqui was still taking drugs and had sold her wedding ring to buy more.
Sister Veronica and Cyril visited the couple's home to see how they were both coping after becoming parents but sadly found them dead.
Viewers took to social media to share their thoughts on the hard-hitting episode, with one noting: “What an episode - Exhausted now after all the sobbing! #callthemidwife.”
Another added: “Another extremely brave storyline. Very sensitively put together. So sad but beautifully and sympathetically written and acted. #CallTheMidwife.”
