Trace Cyrus has claimed his father Billy Ray Cyrus threatened legal action after expressing concerns about the country star's recent performance at Donald Trump's Liberty Inaugural Ball.
The 35-year-old musician took to Instagram yesterday to address his father's response.
"Dad my message was beyond loving. I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but I don't want to put your business out there like that," Trace wrote.
"But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace," he continued, adding that everyone close to his father was "terrified to tell you how they really feel."
The public dispute began earlier this week when Trace posted an emotional message expressing deep concern for his father following his disaster performance at the inaugural event.
"Since my earliest memories all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever," Trace wrote on Instagram.

He revealed that he and his sisters had been worried about their father for some time, stating: "Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you've pushed all of us away."
Trace specifically mentioned his sister Noah, saying she "desperately has wanted you to be part of her life."
Billy Ray Cyrus defended his inaugural performance, telling People: "I wouldn't have missed the honour of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar, and monitors worked or not. That's called rock and roll!"
His recent ex-wife Firerose offered a different perspective on the situation.
"What's being seen in public now reflects much of what I experienced in private during our relationship," she told Page Six.
"It's very sad to see those same struggles continue for him, but I'm glad the truth is coming to light," Firerose added, suggesting healing would only be possible when confronting the truth.
In contrast to Trace's concerns, younger brother Braison Cyrus defended their father's wellbeing.
"I've spent the last year getting to know my dad better than I ever have," Braison wrote on Instagram. "After he spent a week in the hospital in the fall, I'm grateful that my dad is happy, healthy and ready to make this record."
Alongside his latest statements, Trace shared nostalgic family photos on Instagram Stories.
One image showed him walking with his father in a field, which he captioned: "Father's Day 2022. I'd say this was the last good day I had with my dad."

Trace, who was adopted by Billy Ray at age four when he married his mother Tish in 1993, revealed he lives just 30 minutes away from his father.
"For all of you wondering no I still haven't heard from my dad. He did contact a family member to let me know he's taking legal action against me for encouraging him to get help," Trace wrote.
"Dad I live 30 minutes away from you. You could've just come & talked to me like a man," he added in a follow-up comment.
The Metro Station guitarist also urged fans to send his father words of encouragement, saying: "I have faith the man we all once knew is still in there somewhere."
