The GB News presenter is currently on a break in South Africa

GB News star Bev Turner's holiday in South Africa got off to a terrifying start, the presenter has revealed.

Bev narrowly avoided serious injury while in the country after a storm resulted in a tree almost falling and crush the car she was travelling in.

The GB News star said of the incident: "Just had one of the scariest nights of my life... Huge #CapeStorm picked up yesterday afternoon in #stellenbosch.

"It was too dangerous to go for dinner anywhere except small pizza place next door on foot.

"We went to bed listening to the torrential rain and wind. The Hotel is amongst lots of tall oak trees. We were in the newer rooms on a slope.

"We were woken at 2am by a huge bang and our ceiling falling in over our heads!!" she added, followed by a shocked emoji.

"I literally screamed!" Bev continued. "We scrambled to get out, not knowing if we should stay or go outside.

"Having lived in Manchester and London my whole life I wasn't exactly familiar with #monsoon etiquette! But James told me to stand under the door frame while he ran about grabbing our bags like an action hero.

"We made a terrified dash to our hire car not knowing if a tree was about to fall on us. We had a choice: to get to the main house we could drive a forward or reverse route.

"We decided to reverse. Moments later the tree in the picture fell. We were parked two foot in front. If we had gone forward we would have been under it."

Bev shared a picture of said tree with the giant structure blocking up the entire road in front of her.

She signed off: "We got to the main house which has been stood here for 150 years. It was safe and much quieter.

"Today we get to visit my son in #CapeTown who I haven't seen for 8 weeks but the roads are littered with fallen trees. Wish us luck!"

A number of fans rushed to wish Bev well - including others members of the GB News family.
