The Repair Shop expert was faced with a huge challenge in the classic episode

The Repair Shop's resident goldsmith Richard Talman admitted one task was his "most risky repair yet" as he took on a sentimental and irreplaceable item.

In a classic episode of the BBC favourite, which aired once again on Wednesday, the jewellery expert was tasked with fixing a ring containing the ashes of the guest's mother.

Guest Nicky arrived at the iconic barn with her father, explaining: "I've got a ring that has my mum's ashes in, and sadly it got squashed when I was moving a table and got my hand stuck."

"And obviously the resin with the ashes is there but it's snapped just here," she detailed, pointing out the damage.

"Oh dear, OK," Talman responded, taking in the weight of the task before the guest went on to reflect on her mother.

"She was Julie, she was 62 when she died two years ago," she explained. When host Jay Blades asked how she'd died, the guest replied: "She had lung cancer."

She continued: "And it was really hard because she was incredibly fit, active... Grandchildren were her life."

Adding that her late mother had been a nurse for 35 years, she continued: "She was the glue that held everything together."

Her father explained: "We got married when she was 19 and I was 23... and [we were] together ever since."

"So whose idea was it to put the ashes in the ring?" Blades inquired."That was mum's idea," the guest replied. "She said to dad that's something she would like for my sister and I.

"So dad got my sister and I the brochure and independently, we both actually picked out the exact same ring.

"So now I get to see my sister wearing hers with pride knowing that I have broken mine."

Detailing the extent of the damage, her dad added: "We tried to get it repaired from the people we got it from, sent them the ring and they sent it back and said, 'No we can't do that.'"

"Yeah, it really has sustained a bit of bending hasn't it?" Talman observed. The group noted that while some of the stones had come away, the ashes remain in the ring.

"Oh Nicky... I do love a challenge so I'll do my very best for you," he assured the guest.

Turning to Blades after the father and daughter left, he admitted: "This is going to be without a doubt the most risky repair yet... Without a doubt." Blades promised his co-star a cup of tea, adding "you'll need it".

Thankfully, Talman managed to do a perfect job, and when Nicky came to collect the ring, she was in awe.

"Wow, my goodness. That’s incredible, I cannot believe that," she commented. "You’re very talented. Thank you!"

Placing it back on her finger, Nicky gasped at how good it looked, adding: "I really didn’t think I'd ever be able to wear it again, it's been really hard obviously losing mum and the things that she’s missed out on since not being with us.

"So to now have her going through those things almost with us again... It is really special so thank you."
