Strictly Come Dancing fans appear to have turned against It Takes Two

The BBC has faced calls to axe Strictly Come Dancing's sister show It Takes Two following the introduction of a new host this year.

It Takes Two used to be fronted by Zoe Ball and Claudia Winkleman up until recent years when Rylan Clark took the reins.

Janette Manrara - who welcomed her first child with Aljaz Skorjanec earlier this year - ditched her role as a pro dancer on the show to join Clark as co-host last year but he was replaced by Fleur East for the 2023 series.

East and Manrara have alternated in the presenter role so far this series as they provide Strictly fans with their daily dose of ballroom gossip from the remaining celebrities and their pro partners.

However, the introduction of East - who made it all the way to the final as a contestant in 2022 - appears to have fallen flat with a number of viewers.

The singer even sparked particular outrage when she decided to rap an entire segment on the show earlier this week as her "Rap Up" feature was added to the format.

As a result, long-time It Takes Two viewers have now suggested it's time to "scrap" the show altogether, with some even branding it "banal".

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan fumed: "How has #ittakestwo become a bit boring now? It used to be so lively and so much fun. Now its just not holding my attention. Different presenters perhaps?"

"Think it’s run it’s course, switched off last night," a second agreed while a third commented: "They should scrap #ItTakesTwo now! How Fleur East got this gig is beyond me and it’s pointless *turns it off*."

Elsewhere a fourth pleaded: "This years #ItTakesTwo is drrryyy…not atmosphere at all. Miss the fun of Claudia, Zoe and Rylan #strictly."

And a fifth blasted East's rap specifically as they criticised: "#Ittakestwo It takes a certain level of awful to make this programme even more banal. Step forward Fleur East and her excruciating rap."

Meanwhile, a sixth begged: "BRING BACK RYLAN!!!!!! Sorry Fleur but it’s not working - flat as a fart - as we say in Yorkshire! #ittakestwo."

However, there have been a few vocal supporters who've weighed into the debate, including another viewer who argued: "I am liking #ItTakesTwo so far. #fleureast is surprising me, quite positively. Glad to see @JManrara back as well.

"Some may hate me for it but…I admit, never been a Rylan fan. His exuberant personality & blindingly white teeth just gave me headaches." (sic)

This isn't the first time the 2023 series of Strictly has come under fire since it launched just a few weeks ago.

Ahead of the third week of the competition and fresh off the back of Les Dennis' exit, a number of fans have accused the Beeb of "stitching up" pro dancer Gorka Marquez with the routine his partner Nikita Kanda has been given.

Elsewhere, Amanda Abbington - who's been forced to wear a brace following a painful rib injury - is at the centre of a favouritism row after fans spotted a peculiar trend with the dances she's been given each week.

With Movie Week lying ahead, fans will have to tune in on Sunday night to see if their favourite has made it through to Week Four of the contest.
