BBC Sport presenter Emma Louise Jones has decided to step back from work duties in order to "focus on getting back to full strength" following her latest health woes.

The 33-year-old, who appeared on Match of the Day spin-off MOTDx, Football Focus and other shows with the channel, didn't provide details on her illness.

Instead, she issued a short statement on social media site X, admitting she's been spending "more time in hospital than my own home".

In a message to her 345.3k followers, Jones began: "My health hasn’t been in a great place for quite some time now.

"And I’ve spent more time in hospital than my own home. I’m taking time away from work/life to focus on getting back to full strength.

"I’ll be back soon," she promised her fans, followed by a muscly arm and smiley-faced emoji.

She also reposted the message on her Instagram page, on which she boasts 424k followers.

Before long, Jones was soon inundated with fans wishing her well and sharing similar experiences.

Former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling penned: "Sorry to hear that. Hope things improve soon."

"Get well soon EJ, health is the most important thing. Wishing you a speedy recovery so we can enjoy your punditry again," one fan wrote.

A second echoed: "Sorry to hear you've been having a hard time if it, wishing you a speedy recovery, take care."

"Get well soon.. Come back refreshed and recharged," added a third while a fourth praised: "It takes a lot to admit that things aren’t okay! Kudos to Emma and hopefully see you back on tv asap." (sic)

This isn't the first time this year Jones has been inundated with support after sharing a personal insight into her life away from the screen.

Back in March, Jones opened up about the loss of her mother when she was just 18 years old.

To mark Mother's Day, Jones opened up about her mum in an attempt to provide support to followers in similar circumstances.

Jones admitted her mother had been "poorly for as long as I can remember", battling with MS and breast cancer.

"What followed were years of treatments and glimmers of hopes - and then setbacks," she candidly admitted.

Similarly, Jones found herself on the receiving end of support, including from GB News' own Eamonn Holmes who liked her candid post.
