Licence fee payers are far from happy with the Beeb's latest move

Homes Under the Hammer presenter Tommy Walsh, 67, has been axed from his role on the BBC property show.

The legendary TV handyman became a household name as part of the Beeb's Garden Force in the late nineties and joined Homes Under the Hammer back in 2021.

But the 67-year-old's services are reportedly no longer needed and BBC show bosses have already lined up a replacement.

Owain Wyn Evans is believed to be stepping into the Walsh-shaped hole in the Homes Under the Hammer line-up.

The decision for Walsh to leave the show comes just over a year after he went public with his throat cancer diagnosis in 2022.

He reportedly filmed his final Homes Under the Hammer scenes last year and won't be back while it's been reported that Evans has already stepped in front of the camera for his debut episodes.

Shedding light on the BBC's decision, an insider told The Sun: "Bosses wanted a makeover to keep younger viewers interested.

"They have been keen to get Owain onto one of their popular shows for a while — he will add a new dynamic.

"The upcoming series will feature both Tommy and Owain as there is a three-month lag with the house makeovers, so there is some crossover."

The BBC declined to comment when contacted by GB News but the reports have sparked uproar on social media as Walsh becomes the latest in a long line of experienced TV personalities to have departed the Beeb in recent years.

One fan said on X about the reports: "Another genius move by the diversity obsessed @BBC. Tommy Walsh (Decades of property renovation experience) has been replaced by Owain Wyn Evans... on Homes Under The Hammer. I have no words."

Reacting to the disgruntled user's post, one fan furiously typed: "BBC have totally lost the plot."

"Tommy was great on HUTH - he knows what he is on about," a second defended while a third hit out: "RIDICULOUS - what does Weatherman know about Property Development? Tommy Walsh has been in the building game all his life, so surely he was the property expert to turn to when repairs are needed! The BBC are a Woke Joke!!!!"

Another threatened to boycott the show: "I will never watch Homes under the Hammer again! I hope the programme fails just like Question of Sport failed when we stopped watching it in protest of bloody woke nonsense, the viewing figures plummeted."

Meanwhile, a fifth raged: "Shocking. Tommy Walsh is full of useful advice and help. I hate @BBCOne and they hate the viewers."

However, some defended the decision, including one person who argued: "To be fair i think Owain will be a great TV presenter. On the radio he is absolutely brilliant." (sic)

Evans presented the weather on regional channels for years before he made his debut on BBC Breakfast in 2021.

Since then, he's landed a gig on BBC Radio 2 where he hosts his Early Breakfast Show.
