Davies joined the Den in 2019 as the youngest ever female investor

Dragons' Den star Sara Davies has revealed how a grave warning from doctors about pre-diabetes prompted her to embark on an incredible three stone weight loss journey.

The 40-year-old investor was told her health was "getting a little bit out of hand" before deciding to make a change.

Davies, who joined the BBC show in 2019 as its youngest ever female investor, transformed her lifestyle by cutting out chocolate and sugary drinks.

The businesswoman has since dropped from a size 16 to a size 12.

Speaking to The Mirror, Davies revealed her annual blood glucose checks had shown concerning trends.

"Every year since I've had my blood glucose levels checked and every year I've seen that number creep up and up towards the pre-diabetic area," she said.

The mother-of-two received a crucial warning two years ago.

"The doctor told me, 'This is getting a little bit out of hand, by this time next year you'll be pre-diabetic.' It was the kick up the bum I needed," Davies explained.

In response to the warning, Davies committed to significant lifestyle changes.

She eliminated sugar from her diet and increased her running routine, which she had initially developed during lockdown.

The TV star challenged herself to achieve a personal best in the Great North Run half-marathon.

Davies also revealed to Closer magazine that she stopped drinking alcohol, even during Dragons' Den dinner gatherings.

"Peter Jones has very nice, expensive taste in wine, but I feel so much better for cutting it out," she said.

Despite her transformation, Davies maintains a balanced perspective on body image.

"I've got big stretch marks and my mum tum, but it's part of being human, and I know I'm healthy, and that's what matters to me," she told The Mirror.

Davies explained she seldom looks at the scales to mark her progress. She noted that while she weighs more this year than last, she has dropped two dress sizes. The 40-year-old added that she is content being a size 14 and does not aspire to be a size six or eight.

Davies celebrated her 40th birthday in April 2024, marking a personal milestone in her fitness journey.

"I wanted to be the fittest I'd been since I was 30," she shared. "I've spent half my life sucking myself into Spanx, and now it's bloody lovely to put on a dress and not have two pairs on underneath!"

Since joining Dragons' Den in 2019 at age 35, Davies has continued to balance her TV career with running Crafter's Companion, a company she founded as a university student.
