BBC Countryfile has responded to criticism it faced from one of its recent episodes, which saw viewers left puzzled about the topic being explored.
Last month, the programme dedicated part of an episode dentistry, which many fans were quick to point out is a nation-wide issue that doesn’t just affect the countryside.
Typically, the programme covers life in rural areas of the UK as well as issues or updates in the world of agriculture.
Some people tuned into the episode where therefore confused as to why dentistry was the main topic of discussion, and many made their voices heard as they complained on social media.
As well as pointing out a geographical error made on the show, viewers flooded X, formerly Twitter, with criticisms about the dentistry segment.
The BBC has since addressed the comments, sharing a statement from bosses to defend the episode.

The comment read: “Countryfile covers a wide range of rural affairs issues affecting rural areas and communities.
“In this programme, Countryfile investigated the lack of NHS dentistry provision in Devon and Cornwall.
“Our film acknowledged this is a national problem but focused on the stories of those living in rural areas.
“Previously the programme has produced diverse films including shortfalls in Special Education Needs provision and the difficulties recruiting Midwifery staff in rural areas.”

At the time, viewers were scratching their heads over the instalment of the weekly programme.
One asked: “Countryfile , why on earth are they talking about teeth and dentists? Isn’t it supposed to be about the countryside #countryfile #BBC.”
Another similarly fumed: “Can the BBC please explain what dentists have to do with the country? Or is it another party political broadcast? #countryfile."
“Can anyone tell me what the shortage of NHS dentists has to do with the BBCs Countryfile?” a third questioned. (sic)

In the same episode, fans noted how the presenters had made a mistake with the location of another segment.
It came as fans were told by Sean Fletcher that the prehistoric hill figure, The Uffington White Horse, was part of the Marlborough Downs when in fact it’s located in Oxfordshire.
