Countryfile viewers were taken to the Royal Welsh Show and looked back on the event's 120-year history

Countryfile presenter Adam Henson was left humbled and involved in an awkward exchange during the Royal Welsh Show when guest Gareth Wyn Jones, a famous farmer, issued a brutal correction over his knowledge.

During yesterday's episode, Henson helped to judge the Young Pig Handlers Competition, while Charlotte Smith headed to the forestry section to discover the art of woodchopping, and met some of the producers trading at the show, from stick-makers to coracle crafters.

Henson was joined by Jones to speak to those attending the show but was left red-faced when Jones hit back at the BBC star after he made a mistake speaking to some attendees.

After checking out prize bulls and freshly-sheered sheep, Henson took a break at the show’s pub - The Baa - for a drink and a catch-up, asking Jones who he managed to catch up with: "Have you found some friends Gareth?

"Why is it so important then?" he asked before one guest, Derek Parry, explained: "People get together, maybe just once a year, they just get together and have a chat, socialise. You know, I don't see this fella, just once a year maybe."

Interjecting, Jones added: "There's a saying in Welsh - 'Rhoi'r byd yn ei le'. Put the world to rights. So that is what a lot of the farmers will be doing here, having that conversation."

Looking around the pub, Henson observed: "And not many people would know that there's a bar here for all the teams that are showing their animals."

However, Jones quickly jumped to the defence of the amount of people flowing in and out of the event and quipped: "I beg to differ. You come in here in about an hour - how many people?"

"It's for everybody, this. Everybody knows," Parry added before Jones continued: "There are all kinds of people here."

Feeling like his time was done with the trio, Henson noted: "Well, well done, good to see you and enjoy the rest of the day."

As well as the number of people who were coming in and out of 'The Baa', Henson was also stunned to see one group celebrating their hen party at the Show.

Sitting down with the group of women, he exclaimed: "This is the hen party!" leaving the ladies at the table nodding enthusiastically and explaining: "We come here every year."

The bride-to-be, Siân Williams, added: "We’re all from a farming community so it just makes sense that we’re here for the day."

Taking his moment, Henson asked the ladies if they had all met their partners at the Royal Welsh, and left Williams to confirm: "Most of them, yes!"

Before he left, he asked if they thought guest Jones was a "Welsh heartthrob," leaving the women to awkwardly stare at one another before he quipped: "Mixed reviews!".

Leaving the show on a high, Henson and Smith took part in a sawing challenge, going head to head and having Smith coming out on top.
