The Copacabana singer announced he would be cancelling the highly-anticipated show earlier this week

Barry Manilow fans have taken to social media in their droves to support the singer-songwriter after he announced he'd need to cancel a show during his farewell tour.

The 80-year-old Mandy hit maker was set to perform at the London Palladium on May 27, but with just hours to go, an announcement confirmed he was unable to perform.

A statement posted on Manilow's social media accounts read: "Unfortunately, under doctor’s orders, we must cancel tonight’s 27th May Barry Manilow concert.

"Please hold on to your tickets until we can sort out rescheduling tonight's performance.

"We are very sorry we have to make this announcement and trust that tomorrow night's concert will go on as scheduled."

Hundreds had already gathered at the theatre ready for the show to start when the announcement was made.

A third sympathised: "Please feel better Barry. Please take care of yourself so that we can enjoy you and your music. But always remember you first. Sending you love and positive energy."

"Take care of yourself @barrymanilow, rest the voice, you were awesome on Saturday night," another fan remarked, sharing a snap of the singer in action at a previous concert.

Another added: "Please just take care of yourself. Look forward to seeing you when you’ve recovered."

The singer is in the middle of a nine-day residency at the venue, which is set to finish in June.
