Angela Scanlon details 'torturous' feature of Strictly Come Dancing and admits 'it was never comfortable'
BBC
The Robot Wars presenter starred on Strictly Come Dancing in 2023 alongside dance partner Carlos Gu
The BBC presenter just missed out on reaching the quarter-finals during Strictly Come Dancing, but recently reflected on the "absolute torture" she felt throughout the series.
Scanlon and partner Carlos Gu were voted out of the competition after facing the dreaded dance-off against Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin.
She recently admitted that standing under the red lights and waiting for their name to be called to see if they got through was "hell on Earth" - which never got easier as the weeks went on.
Speaking to Caroline Hirons on her Glad We Had This Chat podcast, she admitted: "Under the lights? Hell on Earth. I don't know how they're still allowed to do it. Honestly, it's absolute torture.
"And the thing about it is, we were never, or we were very rarely, like up there on the leaderboard - twice maybe. So you can sometimes have like a little bit of a breather because I think..."
She continued: "I don't fully understand how the marking works but you know, if you're right up there, it's very unlikely that the public voted, no matter how bad it is, is enough to get you out.

"If you're skirting around the middle, it's a danger zone. The level of competition was insane so it was never comfortable."
The Your Garden Made Perfect star added she "went into it selfishly" and claimed she had been "wrung out and spat out the other side" by the popular show.
Hirons - known as the "Queen of skincare" - admitted that she was left "raging" and "livid" when Angela was voted off and speculated that the presenter felt the same way at the time.
Scanlon noted that she didn't know if rage "ever really surfaced" and was "genuinely gutted" because it had been "quite a tough run for us", but they "started really strong".

The BBC series is returning to screens this autumn for the 20th anniversary and recently revealed that Aljaz Skorjanec will return after leaving the show back in 2022.
His return was announced on The One Show where he gushed: "What haven't I missed? I got to look after my beautiful wife, and my beautiful baby for two years. But I missed everything about Strictly."
He also announced the news on his Instagram account and penned: "Here it goes.. @bbcstrictly is back for the 20th anniversary this autumn…. and so am I! So grateful for this very special opportunity.
"Can’t wait to be back in that iconic ballroom, and to get the chance for my little one to see me on the best show on TV #lifeisbeautiful #keepdancing."
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
His return comes after Giovanni Pernice was left off the official professional line-up due to the ongoing investigation into his "militant" behaviour which was brought forward by Amanda Abbington - something he has vehemently denied.
Pernice is also said to be "confident" that the investigation will come to a close soon - despite conflicting reports which suggest that it will continue across the latest series and into next year.
