Watch the moment broadcasting legend Angela Rippon vows to “get Michael Portillo moving” as she launches her new dance initiative with Strictly Come Dancing professional Kai Widdrington.
Rippon joined GB News reporter Sophie Reaper at a dance studio in Central London to discuss national dance day, which she is spearheading in an attempt to “get the nation fit”.
Speaking on GB News, Rippon, 80, spoke about the health and mental benefits that dancing offers as she urged others to get involved.
“People want to get feet, keep fit and stay fit from cradle to grave so they can enjoy being fit and flexible”, she said.

“The message for this initiative that people tend to go to the gym or do Parkrun, absolutely brilliant, but that isn’t what fits everyone.
“Dance, we like to watch as entertainment, it goes under the radar as it’s not seen as exercise, but it uses every part of your body.

“It uses your brain too, because you have to think about what you’re doing, and it’s social.
“It doesn’t matter what your age is, it’s an opportunity and I’m amazed the nation isn’t rocking because there are thousands of people dancing today.
“It is a great way to get fit and that’s the whole point.”
Kai Widdrington was asked by Sophie about people who perhaps might be keen to get moving, but do not feel confident enough to get involved.

He told the People’s Channel: “Go out and do it. Look at what we’ve got here, go and give it a go.
“It’s never too late to start. I know people who didn’t start dancing until they are 17,18 or 19-years-old and they are professionals.
“The whole thing about this is getting fit and having fun. It’s good for your brain, it’s good for your body and it’s good for your soul. There’s no negatives.”
Angela then had a message for the GB News studio in Paddington which was being manned by Michael Portillo.
She had a direct message for the People’s Channel star, saying: “You do know, when I’m next at GB News I’m going to get you moving, don’t you?”
Michael responded by saying the idea of him dancing was “frightening”.
