The legendary broadcaster opened up to Camilla Tominey on Sunday about his recent diagnosis

GB News legend and broadcasting icon Alastair Stewart bravely told Camilla Tominey on Sunday morning he'd been diagnosed with early-onset dementia.

The 71-year-old candidly opened up about living with the condition after feeling "discombobulated" and seeking medical help "six to nine months ago".

After contacting his GP and undergoing scans, Alastair was told he had suffered a series of strokes and was eventually diagnosed with the disease.

Ever the professional, Alastair remained upbeat and composed on The Camilla Tominey Show but found himself overcome with emotion when the host shared her own bit of news with him.

"Now we wanted to make an announcement on the show today," Camilla said to Alastair as their conversation drew to a close.

Camilla then touched upon the new Westminster studio GB News is heading to as well as its Paddington base.

Alastair knew about the studio but was caught off-guard when Camilla told him it would be named the Alastair Stewart Studio in his honour.

Emotions quickly took over as Alastair said to Camilla: "Did you also want to reduce me to tears because you have just done so."

He then opened up: "I'm deeply honoured and deeply touched by that.

"And I'm looking forward to working from there as we get closer to the election."

Alastair's candor and composure throughout the chat were commendable, even when he touched upon the devastating impact the diagnosis has had on his wife, Sally.

He admitted that one of the most difficult things about suffering from the disease is watching his other half be "reduced to a carer".

"I find it tricky because your health through no fault of your own is reducing this person who is the single most important person in your life to the role of a carer," he admitted to Camilla.

He then implored GB News viewers: "So if you do think there is something wrong with you, then go and see the GP and listen to what he or she says.

"But also do remember that the people you work with and the people you live with and share your life with are the most important people in the entire world."

Alastair recently spoke to GB News' Cameron Walker one year on from the Queen's death and he'll continue to contribute to the channel in the future.
