The Reform UK MP spoke about immigration during his maiden speech to the House of Commons

Great Yarmouth Reform MP Rupert Lowe outlines the five times his constituency voted for lower immigration and was ignored by the Government.

Speaking at his maiden speech to the House of Common, Lowe explained how the town of Great Yarmouth and its people have been "let down and forgotten for too long."

He said: "My constituencies look around their town and they've seen their once booming home change beyond recognition.

"Uncontrolled mass immigration has failed Great Yarmouth, as it has failed the entire country."

Lowe listed the five times people in Great Yarmouth voted for lower immigration in 2010, 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2024.

He said: "Just like the majority of the rest of the country in 2010, they voted for lower immigration.

"In 2015 they voted for lower immigration. In 2016 they voted for lower immigration. In 2019 they voted for lower immigration.

"What did the conservatives do? Allowed immigration to soar with no thought to the brutal consequences."

"In 2024 Great Yarmouth also voted for lower immigration. The difference this time is I voice those concerns and fight as best I can to drastically reduce the unsustainable number of people settling in our country," he added.

Lowe went on to describe how he believes immigration is affecting the UK and his constituency today.

He said: "The roads are packed, the hospitals are full, GP surgeries are bursting at the seams, dentists are inaccessible. Quite frankly, the system is broken and mass immigration is largely responsible.

"Great Yarmouth has a very long history of proudly welcoming immigrants who come to the UK in order to work hard, integrate properly and contribute to the economy.

"The current chaos could not be further from that."

The new Reform UK MP announced shortly after the election that he would donate his net MP salary to charities and worthy causes in his constituency.

The UK Parliament website says the basic annual salary for an MP, since April 1, is £91, 346.

Lowe, who lives in Gloucestershire and is a former chairman of Southampton Football Club, won his seat from the Conservatives in the 2024 General Election.
