An easyJet flight was delayed for more than two hours after police were forced to remove 26 "disruptive" passengers from a plane.

A flight from Glasgow to Faro in Portugal was grounded for at least two and a half hours due to an incident on board.


The plane was due to take off shortly before 4.30pm but was delayed while police intervened.

EasyJet admitted in a statement that the large group of male passengers were removed due to "disruptive behaviour", adding that it could the "safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew" very seriously.

The airline also hinted that the group had been rude and abusive towards the cabin crew onboard.

An easyJet spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a group of passengers due to travel on EZY3163 from Glasgow to Faro [on Thursday] evening were denied boarding prior to take off and met by police as a result of disruptive behaviour.

"Our cabin and ground crew are trained to assess all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

"Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour towards our staff.

Police confirmed that they removed those on board who were causing an issue but said no criminal behaviour was established.

Those involved in the incident were denied the right to re-board the plane.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 5.10pm on Thursday, June 20, 2024, officers were called to a report of disorder on board a plane due to depart for Portugal.

"Police assisted aircraft staff in removing 26 men from the plane.

"No criminality was established."
