Jack Draper's mother has revealed his career goal is to inspire others as he prepares for his US Open semi-final clash with Jannik Sinner tonight.

The 22-year-old has been in outstanding form at the tournament in New York so far, with the Briton yet to drop a single set.


He went into his clash with Alex de Minaur in midweek having lost to the Australian in their three previous meetings.

Yet Draper set up a stunning showdown with Sinner tonight with a convincing 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 win to reach the last four.

Draper's mother, Nicky, couldn't be prouder of his achievements at Flushing Meadows.

Speaking to the BBC, she revealed his career goal was to inspire others.

She said: "He knows it's very powerful when you see someone play, you kind of wanna be like them, don't you?"

Nicky is a tennis coach at Parkside School in Cobham. Therefore, she knows a thing or two about the sport and what's required to be successful.

She is proud of Draper no matter what happens against Sinner - and has hailed his willingness to put in the graft as he looks to reach the top.

"He's done absolutely amazing," she added.

"You know, he's put in so much hard work over the years and it's been years and years of work and you don't always get the rewards straight away.

"I always say you can't make a tennis player, it has to come from within."

On his clash with Sinner, she continued: "He just has to try and impose his game rather than be dictated to.

"I laugh that we are just sort of on this rollercoaster trying to hang on for dear life.

"We can't dictate what's going to happen and you don't ever know what's going to happen."

In Sinner, Drapern faces his toughest test yet.

The Italian is the world No 1 and previously won the Australian Open back in January.

Draper is, however, looking forward to the showdown and believes he's capable of going all the way.

"I'm not the kind of person who is happy to get to a certain point," he told Sky Sports.

"I'm always thinking of the next challenge, which is not always a good thing in life at times.

"I wish I was a bit more appreciative of what I'm doing in life and achieving.

"As a tennis player you're always hungry for the next thing, you always want something more, and achieve bigger things.

"There's no time to be happy of where I'm at, at the moment. I'm looking forward to Friday."
