There are fears the youngster could miss Saturday's Euro 2024 quarter-final with Switzerland

UEFA have confirmed they're set to investigate Jude Bellingham, with the 21-year-old appearing to perform a rude gesture after the Three Lions' 2-1 win over Slovakia on Sunday.

And England fans have now been sent into meltdown as Saturday's tie with Switzerland looms.

Bellingham was the hero for England last night, with the 21-year-old bagging a sensational overhead kick to send the fixture to extra-time.

Harry Kane popped up with the winner, with the Bayern Munich star sparking wild celebrations back home in the process.

It had been thought that Bellingham wouldn't be punished after he appeared to perform a rude gesture.

He took to social media on Sunday night to stress that it was an 'inside joke' with friends - and wasn't aimed at the Slovakia bench.

UEFA have confirmed they will look into the matter, however, with a statement reading: "A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of the basic rules of decent conduct by the English Football Association player, Jude Bellingham, having allegedly occurred in the scope of this match.

"Information on this matter will be made available in due course."

And England fans fear Bellingham could be suspended for their quarter-final clash this weekend.

"Ain't no way Bellingham is getting a punishment," were the words of one X user.

"I'm not his biggest fan but he's done nothing wrong, sport has gone soft," said a second.

"Bellingham himself clarified it was an inside joke. What's wrong with UEFA?' said another.

A fourth said: "Oh you have to be taking the p**s."

"This is a joke. You are not banning Bellingham for England next game vs Switzerland," raged a fifth.

And a sixth said: "Jude Bellingham has got haters man let the guy be."

UEFA previously fined Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone for performing a 'cojones' gesture in a match against Juventus in 2019.

And Cristiano Ronaldo received the same punishment after mimicking the gesture in the return fixture.

Bellingham was visibly angry as he celebrated his England goal.

Speaking after the game, the former Borussia Dortmund and Birmingham star lashed out at critics of himself and team - with the Three Lions now just three victories away from Euro 2024 glory.

“You hear people talk a lot of rubbish," he said.

"It’s nice when you can deliver and give them a little bit back.

“For me, football, being on the pitch, scoring goals and celebrating is my release.

"Maybe it was a message to a few people. I was very happy at the end, lots of adrenaline.

“It’s a feeling that is like no other. In international football, in knockout football, it’s even a worse feeling, because you’re 30 seconds from going home.
