The Duchess of Edinburgh has presented a prestigious award named after the late Queen at an event in London.

The royal, 59, presented a fashion designer - who has been backed by singer Harry Styles - the distinguished Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design at the British Fashion Council event.


The prize was presented to the 27-year-old London-based menswear designer Steven Stokey-Daley at the Royal Academy of Arts in central London.

The London-based Liverpudlian designer worked on menswear collections at Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford before setting up his SS Daley label.

Sophie looked chic as she presented the coveted award, which is decorated with coloured flowers and takes the form of a tall, silver vase.

The 59-year-old wore a pair of tailored, wide-leg trousers in a tweed print to the annual awards.

She coupled the trousers with a catching v-neck burgundy blouse which featured puffy sleeves.

To complete the look, she wore a pair of patent black pointed shoes, accompanied with a matching black clutch bag tucked in under her arm.

The annual award was first established in 2018 and recognises budding designers who are making a difference to society by engaging in sustainable practices or community engagement.

London-based Liverpudlian designer Stokey-Daley who picked up the gong said: “It is such a huge honour.”

Yesterday, the Duchess of Edinburgh and Prince Edward travelled to Northern Ireland for a garden party and a special ceremony.

Up to 1,000 guests from local community groups, organisations, and charities were invited to the Royal Family's annual garden party at Hillsborough Castle in County Down.

Duchess of Edinburgh and Prince Edward travelled to Northern Ireland for a garden party and special ceremony yesterday

They met with dignitaries, including the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Hilary Benn, and the duke also spoke to business owners affected by the recent violence in Belfast.

The event showcased the diverse range of organisations and individuals contributing to Northern Ireland's social fabric, from long-established groups like the Women's Institute to newer initiatives supporting migrants and refugees.

Throughout the event, the duke and duchess demonstrated their interest in local issues, from supporting businesses affected by violence to recognising long-standing community organisations.
