Rain looks set to batter much of Britain over the next few days

The Met Office has outlined exactly when Britons should expect its next hot blast as the UK suffers from Icelandic polar winds.

Temperatures have dropped slightly across the UK today, with many waking up to overcast conditions.


Icelandic polar winds were forecast to hit the British Isles today.

It will bring more unsettled and windier weather, with deepening area of low pressure moving southeast from Iceland tightens isobars and pulls a frontal system with cloud and outbreaks of rain.

The low pressure zone, which will see wind circles move anti-clockwise, will drag cold air from Iceland over much of the UK.

The North of England, Wales and Scotland will face the brunt of the downpours today.

Tomorrow will see Wales and Scotland face a battering but downpours will become increasingly sparse as it moves towards the east.

July 4, which will see millions head to the polls to vote in the General Election, will likely experience clearer conditions after polls close at 10pm.

The Met Office said: “Frequent blustery showers across west and northwest Scotland, with a few showers also across Northern Ireland and northwest England. Elsewhere, mainly dry with some sunshine. Windy in the north.”

In its outlook over the weekend, the Met Office added: “Remaining changeable and rather cool throughout.

“Friday likely to see some rain in the south with showers elsewhere. A mix of sunshine and showers over the weekend for many.”

However, the Met Office suggested warmer weather could soon return.

Looking ahead to next week, UK’s national weather service said: “There are tentative signs that further into next week, conditions may begin to gradually turn a bit more settled, at least for a time.

“This particularly so across eastern parts, with temperatures more widely trending back up to average and then potentially above average as the week progresses.”

A subsequent update added: “There has been an emerging trend towards more settled and possibly warmer weather in the run up to this period, which appears to have been brought forward from the middle of the month.”
