UK weather forecast: Britons brace for yellow thunderstorm warning as ‘additional hazards’ likely

The Met Office has issued weather warnings impacting all four nations in the United Kingdom over the weekend
Britons have been warned to brace for two yellow thunderstorm warnings as the UK’s national weather service suggests “additional hazards” could follow.
Saturday will see large swathes of England and Scotland at risk from heavy showers and thunderstorms, the Met Office has said.
The adverse conditions could lead to flooding, danger to life, difficult driving conditions and power cuts.
Intense downpours could see rainfall accumulations reach 50 millimeters.

The Met Office said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Saturday, during the morning mainly over parts of England before becoming mainly focused over northern England and Scotland by late afternoon/evening.”
The UK’s national weather service added: “Hail, lightning and gusty winds will be additional hazards.”
Central, Tayside & Fife, East Midlands, East of England, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, London, South East England, North East England, North West England, South West Scotland & Lothian Borders, South West England, Strathclyde, Wales, West Midlands and Yorkshire & Humber have all been identified as regions and local authorities affected.
Saturday’s yellow weather warning is in place from 9am until midnight.
Temperatures today are expected to remain warm, with London seeing mercury hit 25C.

Manchester will also bask in 25C heat and Glasgow lags only slightly behind on 24C.
A second thunderstorm warning has already been issued covering Northern Ireland on Sunday.
Adverse conditions has also led to several flood alerts.
England’s Environment Agency issued six flood alerts on Saturday morning.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency put out an additional seven alerts.

However, in its wider weather forecast, the Met Office suggested clearer skies remain possible elsewhere.
The UK’s national weather service said: “Another hot day in the east, but rain and thunderstorms spreading across many areas for a time, especially in the north and east during the afternoon.
“Windy in the northwest. Feeling fresher from the southwest later.”
Looking ahead to tonight, the Met Office added: “Heavy showers, carrying a risk of hail and thunder, will gradually ease, although a continued risk of rain across Scotland.
“Clearer skies elsewhere, and feeling cooler than previous nights.”
