Temperatures could rise to 20C this Autumn as a warm front moves in

An "Indian Summer" could see Britons basking in sunshine in October if warm air "wafts up from Spain and Africa".

Forecasters suggest temperatures could rise to the low 20Cs this Autumn as a warm front moves in.

Senior Meteorologist and Social Commentator, Jim Dale, told GB News that despite predictions of some windy and rainy conditions in October, there is also the possibility of warmer spells.

Dale said the warm weather "won't last very long" but plumes from Spain and Africa could raise the temperature across the UK.

He said: "I think going forward, we have to look at a situation where we can expect several faces of autumn to unveil themselves.

"So whether it be cold, warm, looking towards an Indian summer, maybe in October at some point, or wet and windy, I think that's probably the direction of travel that we're going in to begin with."

Some forecasts predict an "extension of summer" later this year with temperatures in the early 20s in October, or even November.

However, Dale said the warm weather won't be without some temperatures closer to average and some rain.

The meteorologist added: "If we are looking for the best estimate of what we can expect going through to autumn time, I would very much suggest, given that sea temperatures are where they are, that we will see an up step in terms of the wet and windy affairs.

"That doesn't mean we can't see a little bit of warmth from time to time, wafting up from Spain and Africa and the Indian summer coming along.

"That won't last very long, they never do in October time."

It comes after a mini-heatwave breaks out across Britain this week.

Temperatures were sent rising above 20C as respite from much cooler conditions at the beginning of the week.

However, the Met Office warn that thunderstorms could strike this weekend as an area of high pressure shifts towards the east.

Thunderstorms are "expected by day across the south" going into the weekend, the Met Office said in its long range weather forecast.
