Britons heading to Spain have been issued a warning as the Canary Islands contend with a significant rise in flu and Covid infections.
Recent data from the Carlos III Health Institute reveals an incidence rate of 794 cases per 100,000 residents for Covid, flu, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in mid-October.
This rate is double that of mid-August, though it has not yet reached alarming levels.
Ana Joyanes, president of the Canary Islands Association of Primary Care Physicians (AMAPCAN), states, "Every day, we're seeing cases of Covid and other respiratory illnesses."

GETTYJoyanes expects a further increase in infections in the coming weeks, noting that respiratory illnesses typically spike in autumn and winter.
The previous season's peak occurred in mid-December, reaching 1,296 cases per 100,000 residents.
To prevent severe illness and strain on emergency services, doctors are urging vulnerable populations to get vaccinated against both flu and Covid.
Joyanes emphasised: "Vaccination is essential to make the impact of these infections milder or avoid them altogether, especially if you are over 60 years of age or classed as vulnerable."
In November, the Ministry of Health will meet with regional authorities to discuss potential mask mandates across four risk levels.
Masks may become mandatory for symptomatic individuals in waiting rooms and hospital emergency areas.
In the meantime, Joyanes advised responsible mask usage. She stated: "Anyone with respiratory symptoms should wear a mask to prevent transmission."
This precaution can help limit the spread and protect vulnerable individuals. As infection rates rise, public adherence to preventive measures could prove crucial in managing the situation.

People at the holiday destination have been urged to prevent the spread of infections
GETTYAs cases rise, preventive measures and vaccination remain crucial in managing infection rates throughout the season.
Vaccination is particularly recommended for individuals over 60, those who are obese, diabetics, and people with respiratory illnesses such as asthma.
Joyanes acknowledged the challenge in convincing patients to receive the Covid vaccine but stresses its importance.
She warned: "Both flu and Covid can be deadly. If we are protected, we will fare better against the viruses."
