Holiday weather warning as 'severe disruption' breaks out in European destinations - 'follow the advice of authorities'

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) told holidaymakers in the Czech Republic: "Heavy rain and flooding are causing severe disruption, especially in Southern and Eastern parts of the country.

"Check local conditions before you travel and follow the instructions of the Czech authorities if you are in these areas."

The FCDO provides essential guidance on how Britons can get help abroad. In case of emergencies in the Czech Republic, travellers can contact the emergency services by dialling 112 for ambulance, fire, or police assistance.

Holidaymakers have been advised to contact their travel provider and insurer if they are involved in a serious incident or emergency abroad. The FCDO said: "They will tell you if they can help and what you need to do."

For refunds or travel changes, Britons in the Czech Republic should contact their travel provider. They may also be able to make a claim through insurance, although insurers usually require you to talk to your travel provider first.

Britons can consult the FCDO for up-to-date information on changing or cancelling travel plans, including where to get advice if they are in a dispute with a provider and how to access previous versions of travel advice to support a claim.

• Finding English-speaking lawyers, funeral directors, and translators and interpreters in the Czech Republic

• What to do if you’re in hospital
• If you’re affected by a crisis, such as a terrorist attack

Holidaymakers in Poland have been issued very similar advice. The FCDO told Britons: "Heavy rain and flooding are causing severe disruption in the Lower Silesia (Dolnośląskie), Silesian (Śląskie) and Opolskie Voivodeships in southwest Poland.

"Check local conditions before you travel and follow the instructions of the Polish authorities if you are in these areas."

For the emergency services in Poland, holidaymakers can dial 999 for ambulance, 998 for fire and 997 for the police.
