Spending holidays in Europe can be a pricey affair, particularly during peak season.
To avoid paying mammoth sums on your next city break one expert suggests visiting destinations off the beaten track.

He told followers in a recent YouTube clip: “There are no cheap destinations anymore, prices have come up across the board throughout Europe.”
The YouTuber assessed public transport links, free tourist attractions, and accessibility to compile the following list.
Bari is a modern city oozing with culture, historical sites, and seaside charm.
It is the capital of Puglia, one of the most prominent cities in southern Italy.
“One of the big places I recommend people go to is actually Bari in Italy,” said Mark. “They have fantastic day trips. It’s so cool to go there.”
The seasoned traveller recommends Bratislava in Slovakia for its friendly population and competitive prices.
“The prices are so affordable when you’re there so you can go out and eat and you can enjoy yourself,” he said. “You can have a fun time.”
Córdoba is often overshadowed by neighbouring tourism hubs like Seville and Granada, despite ticking most boxes on a holidaymaker's wishlist.
The city, which boasts a tradition of crafts spanning more than 1,000 years, was once Europe's cultural epicentre.
“In Córdoba, Spain, you get culture, you get history, you get affordable prices, you get great food, you get great people, what more could you ask for?” pointed out Mark.
If you have to choose one city on your next trip to Portugal, Mark recommends Porto.
The city is perfect for anyone craving authentic cuisine, wine, and culture, at an affordable price.

Most people visit Dublin during their Irish city break, but Belfast is significantly more affordable, according to Mark.
“Belfast in Northern Ireland is a cool place to go,” he explained.
The city is not only cheaper but is also more navigable, with a rich history to discover.
Belfast also offers great nightlife and delicious beer for a fraction of the prices in the Irish capital.
