Spanish town crowned 'best' destination for retirees as it offers low rents and 0% wealth tax

Britons continue to choose Spain as their retirement destination because it ticks so many boxes.
The country is home to diverse cities and landscapes, but choosing the right destinations requires thorough research.
To determine which spot is best suited to the needs of retirees, relocation experts offered a detailed analysis to crown Spain’s best cities and towns.
Almuñécar, on the southwest coast, took the top spot after scoring highly with its low rent price index and zero per cent wealth tax rates.

Alison Johnson, relocation expert and owner of Moving to Spain, offered the following advice to retirees moving abroad.
“Over eight million foreign-born people live in Spain, with many relocating to the country to enjoy their retirement.
“Mainland Spain and its associated islands, such as the Balearics and Canaries, are home to some of the most beautiful destinations in the world, offering a relaxed way of life, outstanding healthcare, a low cost of living and a warm climate.
“This makes it understand why so many want to relocate to this much-loved country.
“For those planning their retirement in Spain, the project can be a somewhat daunting prospect with many steps and factors to consider."
The research explores several factors including expat retiree populations, rental price index scores, crime rates, average weather temperatures, and more, to rank the best places in Spain to enjoy retirement.
After analysing 44 popular destinations in Spain, Almuñécar scored 7.56/10 as a retirement destination.
With its neighbour La Herradura, the town sits on top of a hill in the province of Granada in Andalusia.
“From here you can almost reach out and touch Africa and its special climate,” reads Spain-Holiday's website.
“The town is backed by rugged hills, valleys and agricultural land of olive groves, almond and carob trees.”
The coastline, located just 19km away from the town, is composed of secluded coves and long sandy beaches.

The research also revealed that the two retirement destinations Sevilla and Las Palmas boast having the warmest weather, with an annual average of 18.8ºC.

Before moving to Spain, UK nationals must apply for the appropriate visa from Spanish consulates in London, Edinburgh, or Manchester.
The Foreign Office says: "You must apply for your residence document as soon as you arrive in Spain.
"Your children must also be registered with their own residency documents."
