Sony PlayStation 5 consoles are on sale everywhere with a £40 discount, including the PlayStation Store, Currys, AO.com, John Lewis, Argos, and dozens more. But Amazon has doubled the discount, beating every other online retailer in the latest PS5 console sale ...provided you meet one specific criteria.

For a limited time, Amazon Prime members can unlock an extra £40 off PlayStation 5 console. The extra price cut only applies to the Disc Edition of the PS5, with a built-in optical drive for physical games and Blu-ray discs.

With a Prime membership (or a 30-day free trial) you'll be able to cut the cost of the PS5 console from its RRP of £479.99 down to just £399.99. That's a staggering saving, and perfect for the 50% of all PlayStation players who won't be able to play Grand Theft Auto VI at launch next year, as the latest statistics from Sony revealed.

The Digital Edition, which ditches the disc drive in favour of all-digital games and movies, enjoys the same £40 discount from every major UK retailer but does not qualify for the extra £40 off reserved for Prime members.

Prime membership costs £8.99 per month or £95 for an annual subscription. However, if you're not interested in any of the other perks of Prime membership and just want the PS5 price crash, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial to slash the cost of the next-generation console, then cancel your membership at no cost.

The sale applies to the redesigned PlayStation 5 consoles launched at the end of last yearwith a slimmer form factor that shed 30% of the bulk from the original console that debuted in 2020.

Known as the Slim Model, this refresh also sports an extra USB-C port on the front of the console and a larger 1TB hard drive. This was an increase from the 825GB that launched with the original console, of which 667.2GB was usable space. Like the original PS5 console, the svelte redesign is available with a choice of either a disc drive or all-digital configuration.
