The Spaniard was on the verge of victory before a fan shouted out at Centre Court

Wimbledon fans have raged at a spectator who shouted out during the clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic on Sunday.

Alcaraz led 6-2, 6-2 and had three match points to his name in the third set.

However, a fan shouted out when Alcaraz had a chance to win the trophy - with the Spaniard then sending a shot wide.

Djokovic went on to save all three championship points and keep his own hopes of securing glory alive.

And fans on X have now blasted the supporter that put Alcaraz off amid the heat of the battle.

"SOME IDIOT SHOUTED," were the words of one user.

"Who is that idiot who screamed midpoint? Djokovic saves three championship points," said a second.

A third said: "An idiot screamed as he hit the volley."

"F**k the fan who just shouted midpoint, have some respect for the players," were the angry words of a fourth user.

A fifth fumed: "Fans at the Wimbledon final seem ruder than ever, including the guy who yelled out as Alcaraz was about to hit the tournament-winning shot, which he then missed."

A sixth said: "The fans scream in the Wimbledon final as Alcaraz was about to swing to win was insane."

And another user said: "Why do people at Wimbledon shout out and disturb the players they paid money to watch? Not real tennis fans!"

Alcaraz started the match against Djokovic in supreme fashion.

He broke the Serb in the first game of the contest, which lasted a remarkable 14 minutes.

Alcaraz was comfortable during the first set, with the Spaniard managing to take the lead.

It was a similar story in the second, with the 21-year-old bullying Djokovic as he extended his advantage.

With Alcaraz 0-40 up, it seemed as though he would comfortably win his second Wimbledon title.

But he was unable to make the most of those opportunities, with Djokovic taking full advantage to fight his way back into contention.

Marion Bartoli, reacting to Alcaraz's failure to finish off Djokovic, said: "It's starting to get interesting now - even Carlos Alcaraz can feel pressure.

And he's now pulled off another victory, with Alcaraz having four majors after previous victories coming at the US Open in 2022 and French Open earlier this year.

As for Djokovic, he's now missed out on the chance to win an eighth Wimbledon title that would have seen him draw level with Roger Federer.
