The world No 1 won in straight sets to add a third Grand Slam title to his collection

Jannik Sinner sent a classy message to Alexander Zverev after beating the German 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 to win the Australian Open on Sunday.

The world No 1 secured his third career major with a convincing performance at the Rod Laver Arena, with Sinner unbroken as he secured victory.

After the match, Zverev cut a despondant figure. The German sat with his head in his hands for a while before breaking down in tears on the court, with Sinner consoling him.

And the Italian has now shown a touch of class by backing his rival to bounce back.

“My team, what can I say. We worked so hard to be in this position. It’s amazing to achieve this things but mostly to share them with you guys.

Wimbledon is widely considered to be the best Grand Slam of them all.

“This is an amazing tournament, for me the most special grand slam. Thank you so much," he added.

“You are the best player in the world by far.

"I was hoping to be more competitive today but you are too good, it’s as simple as that.”
