The Briton has started to show her quality again after a few injury-plagued years

Tim Henman believes there is too much of an 'obsession' over Emma Raducanu's coaching and schedule amid her recent return to form.

The 21-year-old has struggled with injuries over the past years, something that has stunted her development as a result.

But Raducanu has started to regain her mojo again as the start of the US Open looms.

She did well at the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers earlier this year, overcoming the likes of Diane Parry, Caroline Garcia, Angelique Kerber and Linda Noskova before losing to world No 1 Iga Swiatek.

Raducanu has also started to show glimpses of her best form on grass, while she made the quarter-finals of the Citi Open earlier this month.

Henman, speaking to the Metro, says he's been impressed by her displays.

But he also feels there's too much of an 'obsession' over who coaches his fellow Briton, as well as her schedule.

"She played a little bit on clay earlier this season and played very, very well," he said.

"She wanted to then focus on grass and again she was playing some brilliant tennis.

"She’s got a great plan in place. When you look back at the injuries she had, and the three surgeries, it was a blessing in disguise. It gave her an opportunity to step away and get healthy.

"It allowed her to build her physical strength and resilience in the gym and on the practice court.

"Now, when you reflect on her live ranking, she’s in the top 50. She’s only played 11 tournaments.

"So you have to take a long-term view on it. There’s almost an obsession over her schedule or coach.

"She’s 21 and she’s got a lot of opportunities ahead of her."

Henman also feels there's still 'room for improvement', however.

Raduanu's only singles title came at the US Open three years ago, when he etched her name into folklore by winning the tournament against all odds.

Henman doesn't want to set a target for the youngster as she prepares for the final major of the year this month.

He's instead given Raducanu some advice, saying she must 'focus on the process', rather than the outcome.

"She might play Iga Swiatek first round!" he continued.

"She just needs to focus on the process.

"To become obsessed with results, winning and losing… it’s more important to be consumed by the process.

"The outcome will take care of itself.
