The American tennis star ends partnership with coach who guided her to US Open glory, following recent disappointing performances

Coco Gauff, the 20-year-old American tennis star, has parted ways with her coach Brad Gilbert after a 14-month partnership.

The split comes just two weeks after Gauff's disappointing US Open title defence, where she was eliminated in the fourth round.

Gilbert, a legendary coach who has worked with Grand Slam champions Andre Agassi, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick, joined Gauff's team in July 2023.

Their collaboration proved fruitful, with Gauff clinching her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open and achieving a career-high world ranking of No 2 in June 2024.

Gilbert addressed the split on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

He wrote: "Thanks to @CocoGauff and the entire team for an absolutely amazing summer run in 2023 and for 14 months of incredible team effort."

The coach added: "Coco, at just 20 years young, your future is incredibly bright, and

"I wish you nothing but continued success ahead. I'm excited for the next chapter in my coaching career."

Gauff's recent US Open performance was particularly disappointing, as she was unable to defend her title.

She suffered a fourth-round exit, losing to fellow American Emma Navarro.

Under Gilbert's guidance, Gauff's career soared. She won four titles since July 2023, including her breakthrough US Open victory.

The partnership also saw Gauff claim championships in Washington, Cincinnati, and Auckland.

Gilbert initially joined Gauff's team as a consultant, working alongside Spanish coach Pere Riba. However, when Riba departed in November, Gilbert became Gauff's primary coach.

Their collaboration led to impressive Grand Slam performances in 2024, with Gauff reaching the semi-finals at both the Australian Open and French Open.

Despite these successes, recent tournaments have proven challenging for the young American star.

Gauff's form has dipped in recent months, with no final appearances since defending her Auckland title in January.

Her US Open performance raised concerns, particularly her serve, as she hit 19 double faults against Navarro.

Questions about her forehand have also emerged. These struggles have led to speculation about the future of her coaching arrangements.
