Luke Littler missed two match darts before losing to Michael van Gerwen in his first Premier League final.

Michael van Gerwen doesn't agree that his Premier League final with Luke Littler was "special", insisting the pair will face off many more times this year.

The Premier League season moved to Berlin last night with all but one match the entire evening requiring a deciding leg.

Littler battled past Rob Cross and Luke Humphries to reach his first Premier League final while Van Gerwen saw off Nathan Aspinall and Michael Smith.

It was the third time Littler and Van Gerwen had met in a final of an event in the space of just a few weeks.

And arguably the two biggest stars in darts didn't disappoint once again with Littler getting off to a fast start by taking out a 12-dart leg.

Both players averaged over 100 with a deciding leg needed to separate the two sporting giants.

Littler had the first real chance of clinching victory and set up two match darts on his favoured D10 finish.

But the 17-year-old missed both, leaving the door open for Van Gerwen to snatch the win.

The Dutchman missed his first match dart at D8, but made no mistake at D4 and roared at the crowd as he secured the victory.

The Berlin crowd were on their feet at the end of the gripping match and it was put to Van Gerwen after the final that it was "special".

Van Gerwen took exception to that though, interjecting with: "That's not true.

"It's not special because we're going to have finals like this another 10 times this year.

"We play each other so many times... so it's not going to be special.

"Of course it's important, we all know that, and you have to play well if you want to be on top of the boys."

When asked if Littler was going to make everyone else play better, Van Gerwen paused before replying: "Nah.

LATEST SPORT NEWS:

"In darts, it's always good to have fresh blood or people who are in form, people who are in form always push the other players as well.

"That's how darts goes in general, but of course everyone wants to put the pressure on Luke now but I don't think that's really fair on him."

The reporter then added that Littler has "got a lot of talent", to which Van Gerwen snapped back "yeah me too".
