The Prime Minister has reacted after Wednesday night's blockbuster final

Darts fans have taken aim at Rishi Sunak for a message he posted after the World Darts Championship final.

Luke Humphries won the prize, with the 28-year-old beating teenager Luke Littler at Alexandra Palace to secure glory.

It was a painful night for Littler, who had been dreaming of becoming the youngest winner of the tournament.

But Humphries showed why he's the No 1 player in the world as he fired his way to a 7-4 win.

After the result, Mr Sunak took to X to say: "Congratulations Luke, a great win tonight."

He added: "What an incredible final to end a historic championship.

"I know that @lukeh180 [Luke Humphries] and @LukeTheNuke180 [Luke Littler] will be leading the sport for years to come."

But many fans have now mocked Sunak and suggested he scheduled the tweet in advance.

This is because of the way he congratulated 'Luke' - without indicating which one he was referring to.

"The fact you called him Luke when there were two Lukes playing proves you've never watched this match," said one user.

A second stated: "The most tweet from the drafts ever made."

A third said: "Congratulations *Luke*'?? Did you schedule this to auto-send a few hours ago so you could go to bed?"

"You literally have never watched or played... Don't get on this... Its not for you Rishi," said a fourth.

A fifth raged: "You are so robotic it hurts."

A sixth vented their fury by saying: "This is offensively cringe. Like, vomit inducing, eye rolling, tongue lolling cringe."

And a seventh said: My god, is nothing sacred?"

Littler was the talk of the entire tournament.

Despite failing to win the WDC, the 16-year-old has shown he's one of the brightest talents for the future.

Littler was, however, left with regrets after failing to win the massive £500,000 jackpot.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

"The one negative was I lost too many legs with my throw so Luke could break me," he said.

"That was the only negative, I just couldn't hold my own throw and I didn't win."

He added: "Every game has been good but that one has just really annoyed me, especially the three [chances] missed to keep it going.

"That's what the crowd wanted but fair play to Luke, he deserves it."

And Littler, when quizzed about the next world championship, said: "I just want to go and win it."

Humphries, meanwhile, has backed Littler to triumph in the future after coming so close to glory this year.

"Luke showed incredible grit, incredible determination," he stated.

"We will never, ever see the likes of him again.

"To go up on that stage in a world final and produce those darts. I was putting him under so much pressure.

"I love the kid to bits and I hope that he's in the Premier League and plays in everything because I would love the share the stage with him a lot more."
