The Irishman recently had to postpone his return to sport due to injury

Michael Chandler has claimed he won't let Conor McGregor 'off the hook' and also says their UFC fight could happen 'quicker than people think'.

McGregor hasn't taken part in the sport since his devastating defeat to Dustin Poirier back in 2021.

The Irishman had been due to fight Chandler this month, with UFC fans from all over the world eager to see him back in action.

However, McGregor was forced to postpone the showdown after breaking his toe in training.

There is currently no new date for their fight, with both men insisting they're eager for it to take place.

And Chandler, speaking to John Morgan, has now provided fans with a fresh update - insisting the clash could take place 'quicker than people think'.

He said: "We should hopefully be off hiatus quicker than people think.

"I’ll tell you what, I do love to fight, but I am a very patient man.

"And luckily, my life is such that I have done so many things outside of just fighting that I’ve been able to sit out, be patient, still got work outside fighting.

"We’re gonna stay patient – we’re not going to let him [Conor McGregor] off the hook.

"Talks are happening between me and the UFC, I’m meeting with them tonight actually.

"I know Conor is going to be ready to come back soon, ‘cause it’s just a pinky toe injury, so we’ll see.”

McGregor has been mocked for pulling out the fight after breaking his pinky toe.

However, the 34-year-old has branded his injury 'painful' and recently claimed he was in a 'dark place' as a result.

"It's tough, but we keep it dialed in," he said earlier this month.

"The injury, I'm not going to lie, is painful, it's very, very painful.

"Probably even more painful than the leg [break he suffered in 2021] and that's the truth.

"I was in a dark place. I'm alright, I'm getting there again, I'm ready to go again."

McGregor also said he was eager to make his fight with Chandler happen as quickly as possible, too.

"August, September, I'd love. You know the way it is. I'm in recovery mode.

"It's three weeks to the day. It happened three weeks ago today.

"And I'm still here walking around in the slippers. They're not bad slippers, thankfully, and they are cozy enough but I can't get into a shoe yet."

UFC president Dana White, meanwhile, is unsure whether McGregor will be able to return to the Octagon this year.
