The Serb has now completed the Golden Slam

Novak Djokovic's speech to the Serbia squad at the Olympics has been leaked after he won his first gold Olympic medal on Sunday.

The Serb had gone into his final showdown with Carlos Alcaraz looking to finally claim the prize, having never done so earlier in his career.

Djokovic was thumped by Alcaraz at Wimbledon last month, with the veteran denied a record 25th Grand Slam in the process.

But he was too strong for the same opponent on Sunday, with the 37-year-old winning 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) to secure the accolade he wanted most.

Djokovic was visibly emotional in the moments after his win, falling to the ground with tears streaming down his face.

He gave a rousing speech to his Serbia team-mates after winning gold, urging them to be motivated by his own experiences in sport, with one athlete capturing it on camera.

Per the Daily Express, he said: "You put me in charge, I will never forget this. If I hadn't won a medal, I would have continued to fight.

“I want this to be a pelzer (motivational moment) for you.

"This is my fifth games, I'm 37 years old, I've never played a final until now, and I want you to believe that nothing is impossible.

"To be the best version of yourself every day, not only in competitions."

Djokovic had previously won bronze at the Beijing Olympics all the way back in 2008.

He ended his speech by quipping that he wouldn't let it drag out any longer, with the former world No 1 clapped by all in attendance.

Djokovic also spoke to the media after finally ending his wait for gold.

And the Serbia star admitted it meant more to him than any other trophy, while also hailing Alcaraz for the way he performed.

“This kind of supersedes everything that I imagined, hoped, that I could experience and that I could feel,” he said.

“I don’t think I’ve ever played, maybe, I don’t know, a few times in my life, on such a high level, intensely for three hours, only two sets."

“When I take everything in consideration, this probably is the biggest sporting success I’ve ever had in my career."

As for Alcaraz, the four-time Grand Slam winner was left tearful by his defeat.

Though young at the age of 21, he says he felt he'd let everybody in Spain down by failing to come out on top.

"I think I put more pressure on myself because I was playing for Spain, for the Spaniards," he said.

"I felt that I let the Spanish people down by not winning the gold."

He continued: "It was a different type of pressure.

"Everyone in Spain wanted me to win the gold, and I wanted to win the gold as well.

"In those difficult moments I usually raise my level, but I wasn't able to do that today. Probably I felt the pressure in those situations. You play four Grand Slams every year, the Olympics is only once every four years."
