Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has confirmed that the Paris Olympics will be her last before retirement.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce's hopes of winning a fifth consecutive Olympic medal in the women's 100m are over after she pulled out of the semi-final race on Saturday with an injury.

The Jamaican sprint legend won back-to-back gold medals in the 100m race in Beijing and London before earning bronze in Rio.

Fraser-Pryce confirmed earlier this year that the Paris Olympics would be her last before retirement.

And the 37-year-old set the second-fastest time in the heats earlier this week, posting an impressive 10.92.

That set her up for a hotly-contested semi-final and she was originally set to feature against Sha'carri Richardson in the second race of the evening.

But it was announced just minutes before the start of the semi-finals that Fraser-Pryce would not be competing in the showpiece event.

It was reported that Fraser-Pryce suffered a hamstring injury during her warm-up before the event.

Jessica Ennis-Hill said on BBC: "That's really sad - for Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce not to be able to complete the series in the way she wanted to - she will be devastated."

The first semi-final featured British sprint star Dina Asher-Smith, who has won two bronze medals in the 4x100m relay at the two previous Olympics.

More suited to the 200m, Asher-Smith had a tough ask in getting through to her first 100m Olympic final.

American Melissa Jefferson crossed the line first in a time of 10.99 with Marie-Josee Ta Lou finishing second.

Asher-Smith ended up fifth, knocking her out of the competition.

She said: "I'm just disappointed because I'm in great shape and have been in great shape all season, I fully expected to make that final, the race wasn't even fast.

"I know I'm in a lot better shape than that...yeah.

"I just go on to the 200m, but again I'm fully disappointed. I should have made that."

Imani Lansiquot was up next for Great Britain in the semi-final Fraser-Pryce was set to race in.

But the 26-year-old failed to make it through with Julian Alfred setting the benchmark with an incredible time of 10.84.

Daryll Neita ensured Team GB will have a representative in the women's 100m final as she finished second in her semi-final.
