The swimmer recently tested positive for coronavirus after winning silver on Sunday night

Adam Peaty has admitted he sometimes 'offends people' due to a 'red mist' as Team GB face an anxious wait over the Olympics star.

Peaty has won six medals over the years, including a silver he got in the 100m breaststroke on Sunday night.

There are concerns over whether he'll be able to play a further part in the games, however, after testing positive for coronavirus shortly after his exploits over the weekend.

Before his 100m breaststroke race, Peaty gave an interview to the BBC alongside Gordon Ramsey.

And the swimming star admits he sometimes suffers from a 'red mist' - just like Gordon Ramsay, who is the father of his girlfriend Holly.

"If anything, I'm trying to calm myself down because I'm too excited, playlist, stretching [or] thinking of happy moments with Holly, George, my mum and dad," he said when asked how he prepares for a race.

'So flooding the mind with optimism and hope until 10 minutes before that race and that's when I see red mist and that's when I start to get really angry."

Ramsay then interjected, with the famous celebrity chef saying: "You've got that determination to outsmart everyone, with that comes anger that is misconstrued, how do you vent, because I get it straight off my chest."

And Peaty added: "I do that, but if offends people."

Peaty could have been forgiven for feeling frustrated with his silver medal.

With the 29-year-old so often used to claiming gold, feelings of frustration would be understandable.

But Peaty, who cried after winning silver, insisted he was delighted and proud with the achievement.

"I'm not crying because I've come second. I am crying because it just took so much to get here," he insisted.

"These are happy tears because I have given it my absolute best every single day and I can't be upset about that.

"It's just incredibly hard. To win it once, and to win it again, and to try and win it again.

"Everything I have done to this point has happened for a reason, and I am so happy I can race the best in the world and come second.

"I am almost an older man here now.

"I can't have that relentless every single day without a sacrifice of some sort.

"It comes in many ways, my timing, my energy, my relationships.

"It is very hard to compete with the younger ones, but I am so happy with that because in my heart I couldn't have done more."

Peaty is currently isolating ahead of the mixed 4x100 medley relay heats, which are scheduled to take place on Friday, with the men's 4x100 medley heats pencilled in for 24 hours later.

Team GB team-mate, Matt Richards, says his team-mate is 'not dying' as he looks to make a swift recovery.

"Adam's OK, he's not dying. He's alright, just a bit of a cold. It's not fun but he'll get through it," he said.

"We'll avoid it as best we can."
