The 21-year-old could leave the club on transfer deadline day

Mason Greenwood is one player who could be on the move before the summer transfer window shuts at 11pm on Friday.

Manchester United confirmed earlier this month that the striker would be resuming his career away from Old Trafford, having originally intended to bring him back into the fold.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 but, in February this year, charges of attempted rape and assault were dropped.

That means the England international is now free to play football again, having last played a professional match over 18 months ago.

Fast-forward to now and United have received interest in Greenwood.

Lazio are pushing to acquire the signature of the forward, who scored 35 goals from 129 appearances during his time in the Red Devils first team.

Besiktas have explored a potential loan deal, too, while Olympiacos are another team in the mix.

And as Greenwood edges closer to leaving United behind, it's clear the forward won't be getting his way - having originally been wary of relocating.

Since his arrest, the United No 11 has become a father.

It was recently reported that Greenwood was reluctant to leave England because he was intending to stay and raise his child on British shores.

Yet a move abroad now seems the only way the United striker can return to a football field again.

The club have received enquiries from some teams in England, once they made it clear they wouldn't be bringing Greenwood back.

However, those teams who registered an interest have now gone quiet.

Teams fear a backlash if they sign Greenwood, despite United and the striker insisting he hadn't committed the offences in which he was charged with.

And that's why a move to a foreign league now seems feasible.

United will be hoping to get Greenwood off their books, with the player still contracted to the club until 2025.

Loaning him would mean paying at least some of his wages but, having forked out roughly £6million since the player's arrest, they'll just be relieved to not be paying the whole lot.

United will be hoping Greenwood impresses should he be able to secure a loan move before tonight's transfer deadline.

And that would enable them to sell the player for a reasonable fee in 12 months' time.

United aren't expected to replace Greenwood.

Marcus Rashford has been used as a centre-forward at times so far this season, even if the England international is clearly happier on the left wing.

United still have Anthony Martial at their disposal, despite the France international being infuriatingly inconsistent.

And they've already spent big on one No 9 in the form of Rasmus Hojlund, who touched down from Atalanta.

Instead, United are pushing to recruit midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. Whether that deal goes through, as the clock ticks, remains to be seen.
