Jurgen Klopp's side were aggrieved at the failure to award a goal for Luis Diaz

Liverpool are now in receipt of the relevant audio footage following Saturday night's VAR controversy in their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.

PGMOL officials were split over whether to release the footage after a goal from Luis Diaz was wrongly chalked off for offside.

But the Reds have now received the footage and will study it to determine their next steps.

Liverpool would have gone 1-0 up through Diaz had the Colombia international's goal been allowed to stand.

Yet it was Tottenham who took the lead instead, with Son Heung-min netting in the 36th minute.

Liverpool looked to have secured a point through Cody Gakpo, with the Netherlands international equalising just before half time.

Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones were both dismissed for the Merseyside giants either side of the interval.

But Liverpool's misery was compounded when a Joel Matip own goal gave Tottenham all three points in the closing stages.

After the VAR controversy, the Reds released a strongly-worded statement condemning the mistakes that were made.

"Liverpool Football Club acknowledges PGMOL’s admission of their failures last night," he said.

"It is clear that the correct application of the laws of the game did not occur, resulting in sporting integrity being undermined.

"We fully accept the pressures that match officials work under but these pressures are supposed to be alleviated, not exacerbated, by the existence and implementation of VAR.

"It is therefore unsatisfactory that sufficient time was not afforded to allow the correct decision to be made and that there was no subsequent intervention.

"That such failings have already been categorised as 'significant human error' is also unacceptable.

"Any and all outcomes should be established only by the review and with full transparency."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, was more tolerant.

The German was calm and stated: "When you see [the offside goal] back it's really clear.

"Nobody did it on purpose.

"Whatever I say here just creates headlines."

Former Manchester United star Gary Neville, who was working for Sky Sports on Saturday, has since criticised Liverpool for the strength of their statement.

"Jurgen Klopp handled the situation well last night after the game," he said on social media.

"Most football fans will have had empathy with what happened and recognised it was wrong.

"However Liverpool's statement tonight is a mistake.

"Talk of exploring all options (what does that mean!!!) and sporting integrity are dangerous phrases along with being vague and aggressive.

"Sorry we f****d up was enough!! I said this last night.

"Sorry should be respected and not undervalued.

"This is a snap reaction that can always be wrong but I feel strongly about it."

PGMOL officials Darren England and Dan Cook have been stood down for the latest round of Premier League fixtures.

They had been originally replaced for two games but that has now been extended to a further round of matches.
