The Briton will be hoping to win the race in America this weekend

Lewis Hamilton has made it clear he can't wait for the current F1 season to be over - so he can spend some time plotting a path to glory next year.

The Stevenage-born racer has toiled so far this term, with Red Bull and Max Verstappen dominating once again.

With just two races remaining, including Sunday's Las Vegas Grand Prix, Hamilton is in a race against time to turn his fortunes around.

And the Briton has admitted he can't wait for the campaign to be over, dubbing it 'killer' as he eyes a historic eighth F1 crown next year.

"We have had so much work that we've done through the year already," said the 38-year-old, who also revealed he was still committed to achieving glory.

“I am on a group Teams chat basically with different departments and I will always be checking in.

“But, of course, I am going to unplug; I have to leave the guys to do what they do best.

"But I'm always going to be like 'hey, I wonder how it's going?'

"But you've just got to give them time, it takes time to develop.

"It's small steps each week. And then, on top of that, I've got to get my head in the right place, I've got to get fit, prepare for the next season and spend some time with my family.

"It's been a killer season."

George Russell has also spoken ahead of the event in Vegas.

And the Mercedes star insists he believes the Silver Arrows will come good and create a car capable of challenging Verstappen and his Red Bull team.

"We have different driving styles but the fundamental limitations that we both face are the same,” stated the 25-year-old.

"Each weekend we alternate who goes first in our post-session debrief and often whoever speaks second says the same as what he said.

"So that's always a good sign when the driver speaking second, whichever weekend it is, says the same as what he said because it shows we are on the same page. It shows the issues are clear.

"We are cautiously optimistic going into next year.

"We are not sat here thinking 'why are we slow?' We know why we're slow.

"We have got so many issues with this car and so many problems that we want to solve.

"So that gives us hope that if we do solve them, we can make a big step forward. But we need to go out there and actually achieve that."

Hamilton and Russell both have points to prove as this weekend's big event looms.

The two men enter the race on the back of poor performances in the recent Brazil Grand Prix.

Hamilton finished eighth, whereas Russell was unable to complete the race - much to his dismay.

And Hamilton is in agreement with Toto Wolff that the disasterclass in South America may have been the team's worst day for 13 years.

"I have the worst memory, so I don't really remember them all, it definitely felt like one of the worst," he added.

"But we just got the car in the wrong place. "There is potential obviously in the car, we had two really great races before.

"We just had it in the wrong window and that's on all of us.

"But we've learned from it and experiences like that you learn more than the loss.

"So it's painful for everybody, but everybody has recovered. We're back in the factory the next week, everyone's massively motivated to finish off strong this season and I have no doubts that we can."
