When Raphael Varane joined Manchester United back in the summer transfer window of 2021, big things were expected.
Having won silverware aplenty at Real Madrid, where he flourished alongside warrior Sergio Ramos, he was seen as the perfect player to partner Harry Maguire in defence.
However, after just three years at United, and Varane's time at the club is now drawing to a close.
He has confirmed his exit on social media, saying: "To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it's been an amazing few years to play for this special club and wear that shirt.

"The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Man United player was insane, the atmosphere was amazing.,
"I fell in love with the club, with the fans. You have to play for Man United to understand what that represents.
"For my kids, it's home here. It's going to be a special place for me, for life.
"When the fans went to Wembley [last season], it's something they will remember for life. To share that moment with them was absolutely amazing.
"Despite the fact we had a difficult season, I'm very positive for the future. The new owners are coming with a clear plan and a great strategy.
"I'll see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye for the last game at home this season and it's going to be very emotional day for me, for sure."
United had Pau Torres, then of Villarreal, under consideration before landing Varane.
He was seen as a sure bet, a leader who could take the Red Devils to new heights under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
There have been some wonderful displays. He was excellent in the goalless draw with Liverpool in December and stood tall in the narrow 1-0 win over Wolves on the opening day of the season.
But injuries have, rather cruelly, prevented fans from seeing the best of the 2018 World Cup winner.
He made just 29 appearances in the disastrous 2021/2022 season that saw Solskjaer sacked and Ralf Rangnick brought in to steady the ship.
The Red Devils sunk like the Titanic under the German, however, and Varane spent more time on the sidelines than on the pitch.
Injuries have been a recurring theme, with Varane playing just 64 matches for the club over the past two seasons.
When fully fit, he can be a huge presence. His partnership with Lisandro Martinez last term resulted in United enjoying their best days under Erik ten Hag, who looks destined for the chop.
But United, since January, have been planning for a possible departure.

They opted against triggering a clause in his contract that would have extended his stay on another 12 months.
Yet United did initiate talks with Varane over a new contract. Unfortunately, however, all parties involved couldn't come to a disagreement.
Varane, on wages of £340,000, wanted to keep his huge pay packet.
But United, who are now set to be ruthless under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, were never going to play ball.
Due to that disagreement, Varane will now pack his bags and head off into the sunset - with clubs from Saudi Arabia expected to snap him up.

He is unlikely to be the only casualty, too.
Bruno Fernandes is being linked with a move away, with reports saying the Portugal international is considering a new challenge.
And Casemiro, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford could all be sold as well.
