Alex Reid's clip on social media of Oldham players in the changing room on Christmas Day was seen by millions.

Oldham Athletic have announced they've suspended Alex Reid over a social media post he put on Instagram on Christmas Day that caused a stir among fans.

Reid took to Instagram to put up a clip of him and his Oldham team-mates seemingly preparing for training on Christmas Day.

One player could heard asking "Why are we here?" before another person adds "what the f*** are we doing in here?"

The post soon went viral across social media with Oldham supporters unhappy with the players' actions.

Oldham have now suspended Reid for the post, which has since been deleted from his account.

The club's statement read: "Oldham Athletic has suspended striker Alex Reid pending an internal investigation.

"The course of action follows reports of a social media post which appeared on 25 December.

"Alex will be suspended while the investigation takes place and the club will make no further comment until it is complete."

Reid's suspension comes after furious backlash from some Oldham fans who were furious with some of the players in the short clip.

One Instagram user wrote: "Absolutely disgusting attitude given how much we’re underperforming in the league. They don’t deserve a day off."

Another simply said: "No pity on them."

A third joked: "Perform better on field and you might have had the day off lads."

Another posted: "These players should be focused on getting Oldham back to league 2."

Much of the anger from Oldham fans comes after they suffered a disappointing defeat to Gateshead on Saturday.

Oldham dropped out of the Football League after 115 years back in 2022, sparking angry protests from supporters in their game against Salford.

Fans stormed the pitch on that day in April 2022 with the League Two fixture being halted for nearly two hours.
