The winger's time at Old Trafford seems to be drawing to a close

Marcus Rashford and Ruben Amorim are reportedly no longer on speaking terms amid their frosty relationship at Manchester United.

On Sunday, Amorim sensationally called out his 27-year-old winger - saying he'd rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach instead due to what he perceives to be a lack of effort in training.

Rashford hasn't played for United since featuring in a 2-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on December 12.

The likes of Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Besiktas have all been linked with loan moves this month as the close of the January transfer window creeps closer.

And the Guardian say that Rashford and Amorim's relationship has deteriorated to such an extent that they're no longer on speaking terms.

It's said Amorim will only direct the squad directly, rather than the player himself.

Rashford's camp have bristled at suggestions that he's not working hard enough in training but realise a move away from the club is in the forward's best interests.

His preference would be to join Barcelona, though the LaLiga giants may struggle to afford his huge wages due to their precarious financial situation.

Amorim has indicated that he's willing to bring Rashford in from the cold if he sees an improvement in the England international.

And in a fresh interview with TNT Sports Mexico, the 40-year-old has doubled down on his stance by insisting there are 'certain red lines that must be followed'.

"I don't want to send messages to anyone," he said.

"I am simply very clear about what I expect from my players.

"I have high standards in certain aspects, but I am a coach like any other.

"There are just certain red lines that I believe must be followed for a group to win matches and titles. If those lines are not respected, everything becomes subjective.

"Some things must be crystal clear to the players, that's all.

"I am not trying to send messages to anyone."

United legend Paul Scholes, meanwhile, feels Rashford should be banished from the dressing room if Amorim believes he's become a negative influence behind the scenes.

Speaking on The Overlap, the former Red Devils star said: “I think Marcus has let a lot of people down with his attitude and I think that's what the manager is trying to say.

"You think of the young players coming through the team and think of [Alejandro] Garnacho.

"They're looking up to people like Marcus now and he's 27, he's clearly not training properly, he's not living his life properly. They're the examples these people should look at."

He then added: "Ok, he's not refusing to play, but in the way he is behaving and the way he's training…

"In a way, he's saying he doesn't want to be involved with the team and the fact of letting his teammates down, he should be banished from the dressing room.

"If he’s in and around that and young people are seeing that as an example, the sooner he’s gone the better.”
