The Red Devils drew 1-1 on Thursday night

Paul Scholes has criticised Manchester United star Diogo Dalot following their 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce on Thursday night.

The Red Devils were forced to settle for a point in Turkey, with Youssef En-Nesyri cancelling out an early goal from Christian Eriksen.

In the build-up to En-Nesyri's goal, Dalot was unable to contain the threat of former Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin.

Saint-Maximin was able to cross under minimum pressure - much to Scholes's dismay.

And the United legend criticised Dalot on TNT Sports, saying he's 'guilty' of not stopping crosses 'quite a bit'.

"I think Dalot's guilty of that quite a bit. You know exactly what Saint-Maximin is going to do in that situation," he said.

"He [Dalot] needs to show more urgency, get out to him because you know they've got a dangerous player in the box.

"It's a great ball in, and he's not going to miss from there, but Dalot doesn't do that enough.

"He's been okay, one of the better players for United this season, but he needs to get that side of his game right.

"You have to stop that at source. Otherwise, they're going to score because he's a real threat."

United have failed to win in the Europa League so far this term.

Their draw with Fenerbahce follows two stalemates against Porto and FC Twente respectively.

Scholes believes United will be content with a point. However, he insists they must start winning matches fast in order to ensure they go through to the knockout stages.

"I think, on the face of it, it's okay," he continued.

"You would probably take that result before the game. It's a decent draw.

"The two results you have to say: Porto away, tough place to go, good draw. Fenerbahce away, good draw.

"It's the home game that was really disappointing, the Twente game. You should be beating those teams.

"They're in a terrible position in that Europa League. They've got to start winning games soon."

Meanwhile, United boss Erik ten Hag seemed to agree with Scholes after the showdown.

He said they should have stopped the cross coming in for Fenerbahce's goal and also rued his team's failure to kill off Jose Mourinho's side when they had the chance.

“It was a good game, two good teams, both went for the win," he said.

"We want to win and when you are 1-0 up in a tough away game, after a first half where you have control and we had some good chances to make a second [goal], then you concede a goal like we did, that feels bad.

"The first ball was played in our block, that cannot happen. Then one cross has come in and then a goal, that shouldn’t happen.”
