Manchester United are reportedly prepared to pay Ruben Amorim between £6million and £7m annually in the wake of their decision to sack Erik ten Hag on Monday.
The Dutchman was relieved of his duties after overseeing a torrid start to the new season, with the Red Devils currently 14th in the Premier League table.
The final straw for the United hierarchy came on Sunday, with the club losing 2-1 to West Ham at the London Stadium.
In the time since, Amorim has emerged as the No 1 candidate to take over.

Reports from Portuguese newspaper A Bola say that an agreement between United and the 39-year-old is 'imminent' and close to completion.
They also say that United are prepared to pay Amorim an annual salary of between £6m and £7m in order to secure his signature.
The Sporting Lisbon boss has apparently been presented with a three-year contract at Old Trafford.
And all signs currently point to him being United's next manager.

Amorim was linked with a move to the Premier League back in the summer.
Liverpool considered hiring him as their replacement for Jurgen Klopp, only to then opt for Arne Slot.
West Ham were also interested at one stage but, in the end, decided to bring in former Wolves, Sevilla and Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui instead.
Amorim is viewed as one of the world's most-exciting young coaches, having worked wonders at Sporting Lisbon ever since his arrival back in 2020.

He has won two league titles during his time in the dugout, with those victories coming in 2021 and 2024 respectively.
Should he leave Sporting, as expected, he'd walk away after steering the club to wins in all of their nine league games so far this term.
Amorim is set to become the sixth permanent United boss since Sir Alex Ferguson's emotional retirement back in 2013.
David Moyes lasted just 10 months after initially taking charge, with Louis van Gaal then given the keys to Old Trafford.

The Dutchman won the FA Cup in 2016 but, due to his poor style of play, was then axed in favour of Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho started well, winning silverware in the form of the EFL Cup and Carabao Cup in 2017.
But he was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December 2018, with the Norweigan spending roughly two-and-a-half years in the role before his own departure in November 2021.
After Ralf Rangnick became interim boss, United then brought in Ten Hag.
