Alejandro Garnacho has been named on the bench for today's match at Anfield

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has deactivated his X account ahead of today's crucial match against Liverpool at Anfield.

A search for the 20-year-old's profile now displays an empty page with the message "This account doesn't exist."

The Argentina international's profile photo has also been removed from the platform.

The timing of Garnacho's social media departure comes as he prepares for the heavyweight clash at Anfield, where he could feature after being named on the bench.

It is currently unclear why the forward has decided to deactivate his account.

Garnacho's social media exit follows a period of scrutiny at Old Trafford, having been dropped entirely for United's derby victory against Manchester City last month.

The young winger has been benched for the last four games under manager Ruben Amorim and has also been criticised by fans and pundits alike.

It was previously reported that Garnacho appeared to turn his back on Amorim while receiving instructions before a Europa League appearance against Viktoria Plzen.

Though his representatives denied any disrespect, describing it as a misunderstanding, questions have emerged over his suitability in Amorim's 3-4-3 system.

United sources have insisted there is no rift between player and manager, despite speculation that Garnacho could be sold to Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.

This is not Garnacho's first social media controversy at Manchester United.

Last April, he liked two posts on X criticising then-manager Erik ten Hag after being substituted at half-time during United's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

The posts, by YouTuber Mark Goldbridge, accused Ten Hag of "throwing a 19 year old under the bus" and called the substitution "a joke."

Garnacho swiftly unliked both messages after the incident.

The matter was addressed internally at the club following discussions with Ten Hag.

Former Liverpool player Graeme Souness, meanwhile, has warned Garnacho his attitude must improve in order for him to fulfil his potential.

"I hear about Alejandro Garnacho being unhappy with the manager. Can someone remind me of just who he is?" wrote Souness.

The pundit questioned the young winger's credentials, noting: "The last time I looked he was only a 20-year-old boy. One who is only one step up, on a ten-rung ladder. Who are you?"

Souness delivered a particularly critical assessment of Garnacho's on-field conduct, too, stating: "He acts like a 'wrong 'un' on the football pitch and, unless he changes, he's got no chance of fulfilling what obvious potential he has."
