The Reds will play Chelsea in the final at Wembley next month

Liverpool have made it through to the final of the Carabao Cup despite Jurgen Klopp taking a gamble with his starting XI.

The German saw fit to rotate his side despite having just a one-goal lead heading into the second leg against Fulham.

Second-half goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo turned the first leg on its head at Anfield two weeks ago.

But Fulham have never reached the final of the League Cup in their history, so were not going to give up hope of turning the tie around on their home patch.

The atmosphere ahead of the match in west London was reminiscent of the Europa League nights during Roy Hodgson's reign.

If Liverpool didn't know they were in for a game, they certainly did as they walked across the Craven Cottage turf.

Klopp could have easily named the same side that emphatically beat Bournemouth 4-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.

But he decided to make four changes, with Alisson, Ibrahima Konate, Jones and Diogo Jota dropping to the bench.

Caoimhin Kelleher has played every round of the competition so far, so his inclusion in goal was perhaps not a surprise.

But, in a semi-final, Klopp could have gone with Alisson instead to give his side an even better chance of progressing.

Konate was replaced by Jarrell Quansah, while the in-form Jones dropped out in place of Ryan Gravenberch.

The most surprising exclusion was that of Jota, who has been in top goalscoring form.

The Portugal star netted twice at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday but had to settle for a spot on the bench on Wednesday.

Liverpool fans rarely question Klopp but perhaps a few raised their eyebrows when they saw the starting XI.

But their nerves were calmed in just the 11th minute when Luis Diaz opened the scoring.

Bernd Leno will be disappointed not to have kept out the low shot, which he only managed to push onto the inside of his own post.

Liverpool looked in control for the majority of the match, with Fulham struggling to cause their defence many issues.

A two-goal lead looked insurmountable and it appeared as if the visitors would cruise through.

Fulham had other ideas when Issa Diop popped up and pulled a goal back out of nothing with just under 15 minutes remaining.

Kelleher then proved his manager right to pick him, pulling off a strong save from a fierce Harry Wilson strike as the hosts stepped up the pace.

Fulham huffed and puffed in search of an equaliser but it wasn't to be, with Konate brought on to stabilise things after Jones and Jota had earlier entered the fray.

The quadruple is still on for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool will be favourites to beat Chelsea in the final on February 25, there's no doubt about that, while they have a favoured tie against Norwich in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend.

They are also most people's No 1 pick to win the Europa League, while sitting five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Klopp may dismiss any talk of a quadruple as unrealistic.

But they are one match away from ticking one off the list and, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Wataru Endo and Andy Robertson to return, you cannot rule it out.
