Arsenal saw Leandro Trossard sent off for a second yellow for kicking the ball away in the first half of their Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday.
It follows Declan Rice's similar red card against Brighton in August.
Arsenal had taken a 2-1 lead in a pulsating opening 45 minutes at the Etihad where Erling Haaland scored the opener to mark his 100th strike for City since signing in 2022.
But the visitors struck back through a wonderful effort from Riccardo Calafiori on his first start for the Gunners.
Gabriel Magalhaes then put Arsenal ahead with another corner routine, which has proved to be Mikel Arteta's most reliable source of goals of late.
But there was controversy at the end of the half as referee Michael Oliver showed Trossard a second yellow card after he was adjudged to have kicked the ball away to prevent a quick restart.
Arteta was raging on the touchline while many remarked how Jeremy Doku had also kicked the ball away in similar fashion earlier in the half.
The referee had just blown up for a foul before Trossard hit the ball into the air, almost straight after the whistle had gone.
But Oliver spared no mercy and showed the Belgian a second yellow to reduce Arsenal to 10 men.

It is the second time that Arsenal have seen red this season when Rice was also adjudged to have delayed a free-kick against Brighton on August 31.
On that occasion, Joel Veltman tried to take a quick free-kick but Rice slyly kicked the ball away, which was spotted by the referee who promptly showed the Englishman a second yellow and the first red card of his career.

But Roy Keane in the Sky Sports studio insisted the right decision had been made on Sunday.
He said: "When you're on a yellow card, do not give the referee a chance to send you off.
"You can say it's harsh all you want but it's a yellow card."

As well as goals, there was also a potentially key injury to Rodri which forced the Spaniard off.
With Kevin de Bruyne already out injured, it could leave Pep Guardiola with a problem in midfield.
