The England skipper is on course to end the season without a trophy

Rio Ferdinand claims Bayern Munich have 'failed' Harry Kane as they look likely to end the season without any silverware to their name.

Kane left Tottenham for Germany in the hunt to win trophies but the odds are now against the England skipper achieving that goal this season.

Bayern have won the Bundesliga for the last 11 seasons but find themselves 10 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen with just 10 games remaining, while they are outsiders in the Champions League.

Kane is yet to win a team trophy in his career and has often had that jibe thrown at him despite his incredible goalscoring feats.

He had scored 31 goals in 32 games for Bayern ahead of Tuesday's Champions League last-16 second leg clash against Lazio.

Ferdinand says he has sympathy for the 30-year-old especially after his own form in front of goal.

The Manchester United legend said on TNT Sports: "I feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for him for the way it's panning out, that it's really unlikely that he's going to win anything this year.

"When you think he's going to Bayern Munich who have won 11 titles [in a row]. You just think that 20 years in a row, they've won something.

"But the key thing for him, and it's important for him as well, is that this is an international tournament year.

"He's actually done his job, that's the only kind of silver lining for him. Them stats say it all, 32 appearances, 31 goals, eight assists."

Ferdinand says Kane's ego will have been hurt and has blamed Bayern for not living up to his expectations.

The pundit added: "He's doing his thing, he's doing what Harry Kane does and what we're used to seeing.

"But I'd love to just see what's going on in his head because in terms of pride, in terms of ego which all top players have, he must be shot a little bit because the expectations were very different to what we are seeing in reality.

"[Bayern] have failed him a little bit. The club just haven't lived up to their side of the bargain I don't believe."

Former England and Bayern midfielder Owen Hargreaves says Kane has been his team's best player in his debut campaign.

He still puts him alongside Manchester City's Erling Haaland as the best striker in world football.

Hargreaves said: "Harry Kane's even been a better version of the Harry Kane we saw over here.

"He's been the absolute perfect fit, exactly what Bayern Munich needed. He guarantees you goals and he's playing in a team that creates more.

"We've seen him be the creator, be the No 10 and play people in but in terms of putting the ball in the back of the net, with Haaland he's still the best.

"Everybody was delighted for him that he was going to go to Bayern Munich, he was going to win some trophies, potentially even the Champions League.

"It hasn't gone to plan but Harry Kane has been by far Bayern Munich's best player."
