The 31-year-old tragically died in Greece last week

Panathinaikos are reportedly open to paying George Baldock's salary in full after the tragic death of the right-back last week.

The 31-year-old drowned while swimming at his pool in Greece, with his family since paying tribute to the former Sheffield United and MK Dons star.

Baldock joined Panathinaikos back in the summer after a seven-year stint at Bramall Lane.

He played four times for the Greek side, with three of those coming in the Greek Super League.

According to the Daily Mail, Panathinaikos may decide to honour the full contract of the football star in the wake of his death.

Insiders have stressed the club have 'strong values' and a 'compassionate owner'.

They have vowed to look after Baldock's fiance, Annabel Dignam, and the couple's one-year-old son Brody.

As a result, the former footballer's salary could go to his family. Panathinaikos are also considering staging a 'benefit match' at some point in 2025.

Baldock was a popular figure within football, having started his career at MK Dons.

After various loan spells he moved to Sheffield United in 2017, where he'd proceed to make 219 appearances - scoring six goals.

He was part of the side that earned promotion to the Premier League two years later.

And he also played a key role as they went up in 2022, too, making 36 Championship appearances that season.

Baldock's family last week released a statement paying tribute to the 31-year-old.

They said it was 'impossible' not to love the right-back and also asked for privacy as they continue to process their grief.

"We are heartbroken with the sudden passing of our beloved George," they said in a statement.

"We can confirm that a post-mortem examination has found that George tragically drowned whilst swimming in the pool at his home in Glyfada, Athens.
